San Jose Earthquakes May Be Leaving
SAN JOSE (KRON) -- It's looking more and more like the San Jose Earthquakes will be leaving the city and moving to Houston.

The Los Angeles Times reports the owner of the city's major league soccer team will announce a move on Friday.

Other media reports claim that an official with the company that owns the Earthquakes told employees Thursday morning the team will be moving.

An Earthquakes spokesman would not confirm those reports, but he did say an announcement about the team is planned for Friday in Texas.

"There's an announcement tomorrow regarding the Earthquakes," team spokesman Jed Metee said. Asked where the announcement would be made, Metee replied, "Houston."

The Major League Soccer franchise began life in 1996 as the San Jose Clash, changed its name in 1999, and won the league championship in 2001 and 2003.

Attempts by the City of San Jose and the owner of the San Jose Sharks to come up with plans for a new stadium fell apart on Monday.

Bay City News contributed to this report.
