STATUTES REGARDING PROPERTY:

Califomia Civil Code Section 1859: The liability of an innkeeper, hotelkeeper, operator of a licensed hospital, rest home or sanitarium, furnished apartment house keeper, furnished bungalow court keeper, boardinghouse of lodginghouse keeper, for losses of or injuries to personal property, is that of a depository for hire; provided, however, that in no case shall such liability exceed the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000) in the aggregate. In no case shall liability exceed, for each item of described property, the respective sums of five hundred dollars ($500) for each trunk and its contents, two hundred fifty dollars ($250) for each valise or traveling bag and its contents, and two hundred fifty dollars ($250) for each box, bundle or package and its contents, and two hundred fifty dollars ($250) for all other personal property of any kind, unless he

shall have consented in writing with the owner thereof to assume a greater liability

NOTE: The management keeps a fireproof safe for use by its guests, and the

management will not be liable for money, jewelry, documents, furs, fur coats one

fur garments, or other articles of unusual value and small compass unless placed

in the safe. Under no circumstances will the Management be liable in excess of

($500) for any loss of or injury to any such articles. Please deposit such articles in

the safe. California Civil Code section 1860.

PENAL PROVISIONS California Penal Code Section 537 makes it a crime (1) to obtain food or

accommodations at a hotel, motel or inn with intent to defraud the operator (2)

to obtain credit at a hotel, motel or inn under false pretense, or (3) after having

obtained food, credit or accommodations at a hotel, motel or inn to abscond, of

to surreptitiously, or by force, menace or threats, remove any part of one

luggage with intent not to pay for one's food or accommodations. Such crime

are misdemeanors, unless the amount involved is more than $400.00, in which

event the crime may be treated as a felony.

Any person who uses or attempts to use ski area facilities for which payment is required without paying as required, or who resells a ski lift ticket to another when the resale is not authorized by the proprietor, is guilty of an infraction.
