Apple Fanboys sell back their stock Options

Slashdot | Apple Investigated Over Stock Options
"Apple has joined the list of over fifty companies (most in Silicon Valley) that possibly mishandled stock options by backdating them. The technique is not illegal, but it can cause a company to improperly deduct employee compensation expenses and result in an underpayment of taxes. So far, Apple is conducting the investigation itself, but it has notified the SEC.

For a mere 140 SEK ($19 USD) per year, they will pay all your fines and give you a t-shirt if you get convicted for file sharing. No word for the cost of Insurance protection from the MPAA, NSA, WIPO as of yet.

Toshiba wants unified DVD format // Zeropaid.com

Toshiba wants unified DVD format // Zeropaid.com
Toshiba Corp. said on Tuesday it would still like to develop a unified format for advanced optical DVD discs, but two competing -- and incompatible -- products are likely to hit the market at first.

"We have not given up on a unified format. We would like to seek ways for unifying the standards if opportunities arise," Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida told an annual shareholders' meeting.

The failure of the two groups to settle on a unified format has resulted in a costly battle similar to the VHS-Betamax war that caused widespread consumer confusion in the late 1970s and mid-1980s.

This little-known option lets you completely and nondestructively rebuild, repair, or refresh an existing XP installation while leaving already-installed software alone. It also leaves user accounts, names, and passwords untouched.

I've used this quite of few times since XP came out back in 2001. Nice feature and should be include when you press F8. But if Windoze is running slow due to Bitrot, Its time to the yearly Reinstalled from scratch to get back the performance you and your PC deserves

Scoble leaves Microsoft for start-up | CNET News.com
The world's most famous corporate blogger, Robert Scoble, credited with helping to break down a siege mentality at his employer, Microsoft, confirmed on Sunday that he is leaving to join a recently formed Silicon Valley Internet media start-up.

Scoble, 41, said in a phone interview that he will join PodTech.net, a Menlo Park, Calif., start-up that earlier this year began podcasting video interviews recorded with technology industry luminaries.

So Don't Panic here blogosphere. It Not like the Entire World is going to end because of this new event.

Don't Installed that Windoze WGA. Its not Critical after all

Slashdot | Microsoft Misrepresenting WGA's Functionality?
According to an article on Groklaw, Microsoft is misrepresenting what the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) tool is to pressure people into installing it. It comes with no uninstall, it fails to disclose many pieces of information it provides to Microsoft, and it misrepresents itself as a 'critical update' when it does not address any security vulnerability, although it remains to be seen if it can create one. ZDNet has a series of screenshots so that you can see exactly how badly it misrepresents itself. Oh, and it also checks for updates, so Microsoft can presumably execute arbitrary code on any machine with it installed, merely by making that code part of a WGA update

TiVo launches TiVoCasting | PVRblog

TiVo launches TiVoCasting | PVRblog
TiVo announced 'TiVoCasting' today which looks just like their existing Video Podcasting efforts but with a few content partners and a shiny new name. I guess the word "podcast" was too much of an homage to Apple so TiVo decided to try and make up a new word with their own branding.

So basically Tivo is tapping into the world of Video On Demand. Just Like I am getting from On Demand from Comcast. My Tivo Passed away last April :(, And I got other DVR from Comcast. Sure its this DVR from Comcast does not Preform like my good old Tivo. But Later this summer comcast will be testing and then later this year they will be rolling out Tivo brand DVR service. So than I could subscribe to this service to get back the Familiar Tivo DVR Features and Functionality.

Multiple security organizations warned Tuesday that Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, and SeaMonkey -- on Windows, Linux, and the Mac -- are vulnerable to a JavaScript bug that could allow a determined attacker to dupe users into giving up sensitive personal information such as credit card or bank account numbers and passwords.

According to Symantec, which issued an alert late afternoon Tuesday, all versions of the Microsoft and Mozilla browsers could be used to harvest data through a JavaScript key-filtering vulnerability.

Slashdot | The Pirate Bay Is Back Online

Slashdot | The Pirate Bay Is Back Online

There back, (well at least for now) I preferred mininova.com and isohunt.com (no in bad taste prOn ads) for all of my BT needs.

The Pirate Bay is back online, operating for now as "The Police Bay." Writes one anonymous submitter: "Pirate Bay got new hardware, moved the servers abroad and used recent backups. So the only bad side-effect of this police raid is that hundreds of clients of the ISP PRQ still have not got their servers back from the police. When the police did the raid on Wednesday, they took Pirate Bay from Bankgirot's secure server room. Then they also took all the servers in PRQ colocation facility STH3, effectively disabling a lot of small companies. The connection between PRQ and TPB? - Same owners, nothing more, this is beginning to become a huge scandal in Sweden with coverage on TV and all newspapers 4 days in a row.

Comcast to begin testing HD TiVos - HD Beat

Comcast to begin testing HD TiVos - HD Beat
Oh how people love to hate Comcast's current HD DVR box - the Motorola 6412. Things are in the works to give their customers another option though. Comcast is about to start beta testing their own high-def TiVos. There aren't many details about the equipment as they are still in their early stages. There are some details about pricing over at this thread at AVS Forum and it seems that the TiVo service is going to be an extra charge on top of the DVR service fee.

Hopefully Comcast gets these things out quick though as we know many of you would love to get rid of your Motorola 6412 even if it costs a few more bucks.

For me, It won't be until sometime in 2007 Comcast of Silicon Valley will offering Dual Tuner HD Tivo DVRs in my area. And still no sign of ESPN 2 HD, TNT HD, UNBC HD or MHD to be offered on Comcast HD channel lineup!
