India closes in on $100 PC - Zeropaid File Sharing News

India closes in on $100 PC - Zeropaid File Sharing News: "MUMBAI, India--One of the critical ingredients for the $100 computer is probably in your garage.

In about three months, a little-known company called Novatium plans to offer a stripped-down home computer for about $70 or $75. That is about half the price of the standard 'thin clients' of this kind now sold in India, made possible in part by some novel engineering choices. Adding a monitor doubles the price to $150, but the company will offer used displays to keep the cost down.

'If you want to reach the $100 to $120 price point, you need to use old monitors,' said Novatium founder and board member Rajesh Jain, a local entrepreneur who sold the IndiaWorld portal for $115 million in cash in 2000 and has started a host of companies since. 'Monitors have a lifetime of seven to eight years.'"

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - A space probe hit its comet target late Sunday in a NASA-directed, Hollywood-style mission that scientists hope will reveal clues to how the solar system formed. It was the first time a spacecraft had ever touched the surface of a comet, igniting brief Independence Day weekend fireworks in space.

The successful strike 83 million miles away from Earth occurred at 10:52 p.m. PDT, according to mission control at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. Scientists on the mission - called Deep Impact, like the movie - erupted in applause and exchanged hugs.

'A lot of people said we couldn't do this or wouldn't be able to pull it off,' project manager Rick Grammier said later at a predawn Monday news conference. 'It happened like clockwork and I think that's something to be proud of on America's birthday.'

The cosmic smash-up did not significantly alter the comet's orbit around the sun and NASA said the experiment doesn't pose any danger to Earth."

Are brains analog, or digital?

A new study conducted at Cornell University suggests that we think in analog, not digital. It's a bold claim which, if true, threatens to make thirty years of linguistics and neuroscience metaphors look very silly indeed.

Next week New England Journal of Medicine They report the all human brains actually runs in natural form of Linux or Free BSD!

Deep Impact prepares for comet crash | CNET News.com

Deep Impact prepares for comet crash | CNET News.com: "Astronomers as far back as Aristotle have speculated about the sudden appearance of comets that blaze through the night sky.

Aristotle believed that comets erupted from the Earth into the heavens, while American astronomer Fred Whipple suggested in 1950 that comets resembled dirty snowballs composed of rocks, frozen water, and other compounds made up of carbon and hydrogen.

Deep Impact On Sunday evening, observers finally may have answers to some of these celestial questions. At 10:52 p.m. PDT, a NASA spacecraft the size of a wine barrel is scheduled to slam into the Tempel 1 comet at roughly 23,000 mph.

The impact, projected to leave a crater that could swallow a football stadium, is intended to scrape away part of Tempel 1's surface and expose what's underneath.
