Continuing its assault on archrival Intel Corp., computer chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. said Wednesday that it had swung to a profit in the first quarter on higher sales.
AMD's net income of $184.5 million, or 38 cents a share, in the period ended March 26 marked the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company's best quarterly performance in more than five years as its processors won market share away from Intel, the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer.

But their Registration page does not work in FF or Opera. I had to use IE 7. :( to get it to work properly. It too bad Second Life minimum System Requirements an 2004 > Graphic card to work with this program. I not going to run out fry's today to buy $100.00 nVidia GeForce FX 5600, GeForce 6600,OR ATI Radeon 9600, X600. so I will be able to enter Second Life. My Compaq v2000z has x200 Radeon ati on board graphic. But If Second Life won't run to this figuration. Second Life just lost another potential customer.

SpamDailyNews is reporting that the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has filed a brief that claims AT&T has been forwarding internet traffic directly into the hands of the NSA. The brief was filed under seal (a procedure that allows only the judge and the litigants to view the document) in order to give the court time to review the information. From the article: 'More than just threatening individuals' privacy, AT&T's apparent choice to give the government secret, direct access to millions of ordinary Americans' Internet communications is a threat to the Constitution itself. We are asking the Court to put a stop to it now.'"

Apple Computer said on Wednesday that it has released a public beta version of Boot Camp, software that enables Microsoft Windows XP to run natively on Intel-based Macs.
The software, which will be included in Mac OS X 10.5, called Leopard, is available for download on Apple's Web site. Apple will also preview Boot Camp in August at its Worldwide Developers Conference, the company said.

From the article: "[Danseglio] cited a recent instance where an unnamed branch of the U.S. government struggled with malware infestations on more than 2,000 client machines. 'In that case, it was so severe that trying to recover was meaningless. They did not have an automated process to wipe and rebuild the systems, so it became a burden. They had to design a process real fast,'."

Yes, AMD is finally introducing a 3GHz part, breaking a "record" set by the infamous Athlon 64 FX-57, a 2.8GHz clocked part released back in 2005.
