Early Japanese pressure proved a false dawn at a near-capacity SBC Park on Friday as the home-grown hosts quickly found their rhythm and began to heap massive pressure on the East Asians.

In only the 13th minute some clever work from impressive midfield revelation Clint Dempsey earned a free kick for stand-in captain Landon Donovan. The LA Galaxy man had the Japan keeper scrambling with a low drive across the face of goal, but it fizzed just past the post.

Five minutes later, as US pressure began to mount, the first corner of the game nearly saw Josh Wolff open the scoring with a header from close range. But Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi was equal to the task, making his first save of what would turn out to be a busy half."

Intel loses market share in own backyard | CNET News.com

Market share figures released by Current Analysis Wednesday show that Intel lost significant PC market share to AMD in U.S. retail channels in the fourth quarter.

Intel executives said Tuesday that they expected to have lost about one point of market share to AMD during a disappointing fourth quarter. That figure refers to worldwide sales of microprocessors during the quarter, an Intel spokesman confirmed. Among U.S. retail PCs, however, the results were more striking.

Intel's share of the U.S. retail PC market fell by 11 percentage points, from 64.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2004 to 53.3 percent, said Sam Bhavnani, senior analyst with Current Analysis. Current Analysis' market share numbers measure U.S. retail sales only, and therefore exclude figures from Dell, which uses its Web site to sell directly to consumers. Dell, the top PC vendor in the U.S., exclusively uses Intel's processors in its PCs. (Sales by online retailers were excluded from the market share analysis as well).

Festivus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Festivus is a nondenominational holiday featured in an episode of Seinfeld, a popular American television sitcom of the 1990s. The holiday was a plot device in episode number 166 of the show, entitled "The Strike", which first aired on December 18, 1997. Many people, influenced or inspired by Seinfeld, now celebrate the holiday, in varying degrees of seriousness. Some do it religously, others do it in good tidings in their respect to Seinfeld.

According to Seinfeld, Festivus is celebrated each year on December 23, but many people celebrate it other times, often in early December. Its slogan is "A Festivus for the rest of us!" An aluminum pole is generally used in lieu of a Christmas tree or other holiday decoration. Those attending participate in the "Airing of Grievances" which is an opportunity for all to vent their hostilities toward each other, and after a Festivus dinner, The Feats of Strength are performed. Traditionally, Festivus is not over until the head of the household is wrestled to the floor and "pinned." Originally a Scandinavian holiday celebrating the day before the "Present" and the "Future" filled with hope

Today, though, the sounds of hip-hop can be heard blaring from car radios in Tehran's streets, and Eric Clapton's "Rush" and the Eagles' "Hotel California" regularly accompany Iranian broadcasts.

No more — the official IRAN Persian daily reported Monday that Ahmadinejad, as head of the Supreme Cultural Revolutionary Council, ordered the enactment of an October ruling by the council to ban all Western music, including classical music, on state broadcast outlets.

Note That Anyone who have Any Real Musicial Taste Would elected that ALL Eric Crapton's Music should Be BANNED!!!

House sets digital TV transition for Feb. 2009 | News.blog | CNET News.com
The House approved the deadline as part of a broader budget bill that passed by a slim 212 to 206 margin early Monday morning. The Senate must still approve the measure before it becomes law.

By 2009, only about 7 percent of television viewers--still several million--will be relying solely on analog, "over-the-air" broadcasts, according to Consumer Electronics Association estimates. The bulk of TV viewers rely on cable or satellite services, which intend to take care of reformatting their programs for digital viewing.

But the bill allocates up to $990 for a subsidy program that would permit those who still rely solely on over-the-air television to request up to two $40 coupons for a digital-to-analog converter box.

How The Evil Grinch Stole The Quakes and then Move them To lame Houston TX!

NBC11.com - News - MLS Approves Earthquakes Move To Houston

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Earthquakes will relocate immediately to Houston, Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber said Thursday.

Garber said the team's owners, Anschutz Entertainment Group, were attracted by the chance to play in their own stadium and for an ethnically diverse population willing to support a professional soccer team.

"We've always believed that the city has great potential to be a soccer market," Garber said. "We're excited about what our opportunities are there."

San Jose will keep the Earthquakes team name, logo and colors, and the city has already signed a letter of intent with the hopes of attracting a MLS expansion team, perhaps as early as 2007.

"It is our intent to return to San Jose as early as possible," Garber said.

MLS officials said AEG has entered "positive discussions" about finding a soccer stadium in Houston.

"It is with great regret that we were unable to find a solution to our facility issues in San Jose," AEG President and CEO Timothy J. Leiweke said in a statement. "It was not for lack of effort."

Garber said all the coaches and contracted Earthquakes players will transfer to Houston.

"We've worked long and hard for several months to try to bring MLS soccer here," Frank Michel, a spokesman for Houston Mayor Bill White, said Thursday. "Houston is a great sports town and the fan base for soccer is a great one."

San Jose officials had worked hard to keep the team from leaving, even considering subsidizing a new stadium. The Earthquakes have played at Spartan Stadium on the campus of San Jose State University.

Silicon Valley Sports and Entertainment, the San Jose Sharks' parent company, had expressed interest in buying the Earthquakes, but only with the city's help building a stadium. A deal could not be reached.

The Quakes were MLS champions in 2001 and 2003.

San Jose Earthquakes May Be Leaving

San Jose Earthquakes May Be Leaving
SAN JOSE (KRON) -- It's looking more and more like the San Jose Earthquakes will be leaving the city and moving to Houston.

The Los Angeles Times reports the owner of the city's major league soccer team will announce a move on Friday.

Other media reports claim that an official with the company that owns the Earthquakes told employees Thursday morning the team will be moving.

An Earthquakes spokesman would not confirm those reports, but he did say an announcement about the team is planned for Friday in Texas.

"There's an announcement tomorrow regarding the Earthquakes," team spokesman Jed Metee said. Asked where the announcement would be made, Metee replied, "Houston."

The Major League Soccer franchise began life in 1996 as the San Jose Clash, changed its name in 1999, and won the league championship in 2001 and 2003.

Attempts by the City of San Jose and the owner of the San Jose Sharks to come up with plans for a new stadium fell apart on Monday.

The (city here) Earthquakes
By Mark Purdy

The Earthquakes are gone.

No, wait! They are staying.

Nope, outta here.

Hold on! Just got word! They're staying!

Oops, maybe not. Don't turn off your cell phone, OK?

Earthquakes followers have always been among the Bay Area's most loyal fans. Now, they are definitely the most confused.

That has been especially true over the past month, with the soccer team's operators threatening a pullout to Houston even as a furious effort to keep the team in San Jose unfolded.

This week the situation took a turn for the even more confusing. Monday night, a soccer-stadium plan concocted by city officials behind closed doors went kaput before the doors even opened on the exact details.

However, my information is that the proprietors of the Sharks, who were interested in buying the team if the stadium plan materialized, simply could not make the finances work. With the city providing significant subsidies, the two parties hoped the stadium could be constructed for between $60 million and $70 million -- but as the proposal underwent further scrutiny, the figure moved up to $90 million. Also, the Sharks would have been responsible for any cost overruns, a risk they were loathe to take.

Thus, the Sharks' plug was pulled. But does this mean the Earthquakes are packing for Texas?

Not necessarily. The team's investor/operator, the Anschutz Entertainment Group, has talked about leaving town since 2003. And the Earthquakes are still here.

Talks To Keep Earthquakes In San Jose Collapse
Team To Decide Final Location Thursday

POSTED: 11:46 am PST December 13, 2005
UPDATED: 11:58 am PST December 13, 2005

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Earthquakes professional soccer team could be a step closer to moving out of San Jose after city officials say talks to keep the team in the city collapsed.

San Jose officials were trying to strike a deal with the owners of the San Jose Sharks hockey team that could have kept the Earthquakes in San Jose.

The owners of the Sharks had indicated interest in buying the Earthquakes if the city would help build a new soccer stadium.

But a city official says talks have come to an end because of disagreements over how to finance the deal.

The Earthquakes' current owner -- Anschutz Entertainment Group -- has received permission from Major League Soccer to move the team to Houston.

The commissioner of Major League Soccer has given the Earthquakes until Thursday to make a decision on a final location.

Worst ADSL offering in the world?

Worst ADSL offering in the world?

Here in South Africa ADSL users have to pay exorbitant rates for both line rental and ISPs. So it works out that buying both services + phone line rental from the state owned monopoly, Telkom, you pay about R549 ($86) per month for a 192 kbps 2GB cap shaped account. Once you have reached the cap you have to couch up +- $12 extra per GB

I wonder if the South Africa versions MPAA and RIAA are in cahoots with Telkom?? This is one way to curve illegal pirated trading of music and movies. Anyway you look at this. Its lamecastic!

"CNET says that the Nielsen company is finally taking one of several steps aimed at adapting to the new television/TV audience (those who use TiVo or another service to record prime time shows for viewing later) on December 26th, 2005. Ratings will be broken out by how shows are watched--live, later in the day or within a seven-day period. Over time, Nielsen will also move to measure viewing that takes place via iPods, cellular/cell phones, laptops, and other digital devices that are gaining TV privileges. The company also will track audiences for on-demand fare. The steps are a radical change for Nielsen, reflecting an overall paradigm shift that's shaking up the television world. The audience is taking control. And TV companies are scrambling to catch up."
